How was math before the Greeks?

Mathematics has a long and rich history that predates ancient Greece by thousands of years. Many ancient civilizations developed sophisticated mathematical systems, including the Babylonians, Egyptians, and Chinese.

The Babylonians, for example, developed a base-60 numerical system that allowed them to perform complex calculations and solve equations. They also developed advanced techniques for measuring time and tracking celestial movements.

The Egyptians, on the other hand, are known for their use of geometry in constructing monumental structures such as the pyramids. They developed a system of measuring land area and volume that relied heavily on geometric principles.

The ancient Chinese developed a sophisticated system of arithmetic and algebra that allowed them to solve complex problems in commerce, engineering, and astronomy. They also developed a system of numerology that assigned different meanings to numbers and their relationships to one another.

Overall, mathematics before the Greeks was a diverse and complex field that was developed independently by many different cultures around the world.
